Default Questions

I have just recently broke away from the curse of Lineage 2 and found myself just now getting interested in Guild Wars. As most of you know, L2 is a game that is slow, poor PvP outside sieges, and revolves around grinding. The slow grind and the fact that the game is gear dependant makes for a boring experience. The thing with L2 is you get bored, but you don't relize it untill later down the road when you look back on what the game is really about.

WoW is fun for a week...then there is nothing.

EQ2 just has nothing.

Now for my questions about GW that I need to know before I decide to play.

Will the PvP have some sort of reward at later lvls?

Is GW in a large and explorable world?

WoW being easy to cap out in a week has me wonder...what content is available when you hit lvl 20?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Ive been playing for 5 betas now and the World Preview event exclusively in PVE and im still finding new content and detail around every corner. The missions are absloutely great, the environments are beautifull and extremely detailed. Theres plenty of quests and missions to keep you active for a while!

The thing is, there is just soo many charecter combinations with your primary and secondary proffessions that it will keep you interested for a long time. The PVP is really fun as well, you fight for fame and also for the Hall of Heros, wich the best teams in the world will hold. When you hold the hall of heros new PVE content is opened up to you. The thing is, we love this game so much and weve only seen aout 50%-60% of it. And they continue to surpise us every beta weekend. With no montly fees its definately worth your $50 and i think allot more.

Ive heard people say once you reach level 20 the fun really begins, It really benifits you to explore because you can capture new skills and also find towns with skills in them. There is also new content that can really only playable at level 20; Its insanely hard and also costs some gold to enter. Im not into PVP so mabey some of the PVP people can explain better.

alike any other games, guild wars has its ups and downs. I contradict that the cap at level 20 while others depends on the system. Unlike Lineage this game does have a level cap. I like the idea of not giving advantage to hardcore gamers, but i think anet lacks the essential idea of pve. anyway,
the key word of this game is "guild" and "wars" making it revolve around determined battles and such. It takes stradegies rather than raw numbers to determine the winner and gear, i say somewhat affects the battle conditions while others might not agree with me in this matter.
the guild wars area is Huge and you and your party get your Own World. And with updates and patches/dl and such ive heard they will release new chapters having new maps which consumers can explore in.
the downside is that, yes level 20 is sadly achievable in a week if u're a hardcore gamer ;P
otherwise, i say guild wars is a satisfying game to most mmorpq gamer's needs.

I disagree.
I actually like the level cap, in most games once you get past a certain level, leveling is just boring as HELL.. You have to fight tons of monsters just getting you nowhere. The level cap rocks, it makes everyone equal in PVP and purely based on skill and not your level. Your skills are attribute point based and not level based, although you get attribute points every level. I think the 8 skill slots and the level cap really adds allot of strategy to the game.

It is a fair question and will depend on the player I think.

I look at GW in comparision to other single player games rather than fee based games. Why? Because there is no fee and it is priced like a single player game... only fair to compare apples to apples.

So, my rule is that I better get 30 hours of fun for $50 or the game wasn't worth it. Why? Because every single game I've ever called "good" has provided this.

Having played all of the beta event, my guess is that I'll get about 100 hours out of the PvE portion of the game (including capping 2 characters and trying to see as much new sidequest content as possible in each run) for $50. So, the game is already "good" and worth getting.

Now, is there any gravy? Depends on if you like the PvP in it, which is very well done if you like that sort of thing.

So, since I'm only moderately interested in the sort of PvP GW offers, I figure another 50 hours for that. Then I'll just wait until the next expansion comes out and see if that looks like it will be worth it.

Bottom line, is 150 hours of fun worth $50? Well, since that is about 5 times the average fun I get out of a game, I guess the answer would be yes.

The lvl 20 lvl cap doesn't bother me as long as there is content and exploration to keep me going. So far it seems like it could keep me hooked for a long time.

Also unlike many people on other mmorpg boards I relize no monthly fees doesn't mean that the game will be bad. People will have to pay for the expansions (if they want them) when they come out and it will make up for it.

Think about it this way. If you pay $10 a month and get free expansions every 3 months, it amounts the same to not paying monthly but instead paying for a $30 expansion. I hate it when people say that no monthly fees are bad when they can't relize there are other payment systems that work.

Definately enough content, you can put as much time in it as you want. There are 25 missions each with a secondary mission and hundreds of quests and like 75 exploreable areas. As beta testers we actually only got to see 13 out of the 25 missions and even though ive never really played PVP ive only seen a few of the secondary missions. You can chug right through the game not doing any quests and just the primary missions, or you can do them all. It really depends on what you want to do. Another thing is that you craft your armor, and some of the more exotic armor takes more exotic materials. So you can just get some of the more basic armor or you can spend 100hrs just getting all Tatu armor. Its really up to you on what you want to do.

With the mapping technology they can produce allot of highly detailed areas pretty fast. And with the streaming techology they have its really easy and simple to update the material, and can actually update or change any part of the game at any time and the changes will stream to you in the background. No patches ever.

Judgeing by the beta weekend ends, (wich are WILD by the way) i think they are really going to provide us fresh content. Last beta we had fireworks shooting off and HUGE worms sprouting out of the sky and gold falling from the sky. They do something crazy every beta event, we had a Gwen invasion

if you like PvE, it will keep you hooked for quite a while, I can tell you now. Definitely worth it. Have met some great people while playing, too.

I must say, I like the fact that there are many events. Another thing that keeps me hooked. So far it seems like GW is the way for me to go.

I hope so. Anyone who has gotten 100s of hours of fun out of WoW by now would probably have tapped it out and be ready for something new anyway

WoW is fine, but no game is forever.

We have not seen all the rewards for PvP as of yes. Currently it's more of a status thing: Getting ranks from the tombs and placing your guild high on the ladder. However, if you hold the Hall of Heroes, I have been told a person from your party gets a rare item and another gets the Celestial Sigil. If you hold the Hall of Heroes (in the tombs), you unlock special Worlds at War content for your home region (america/europe/korea).

Guild Wars is both explorable and linear.

The missions can seem fairly linear. You just sort of follow the path killing everything in your way, occasionally taking a side road to do a minor mission objective or side quest, and then getting back to the slaughter.

Explorable Areas, however, as their name suggests, are explorable. While these also half paths to help you find your way around the enormous world, there are no objectives. Just loot and fun things to find. You can either stick to the path and run to the next outpost as quickly as possible, or you could stray from it and find new and exciting things.

At level 20, the game starts. From here, you have reached the point at which the game really starts to become interesting. You will do quests, PvP, obtain items, and so on. Hopefully, you will try and conquer the nigh impossible Worlds at War missions.

But even in each mission, there are side quests. I remember and escort mission in which you first had to defeat a small force before you may proceed. We ended up wandering around and we found a man who wanted us to return a book to a cemetary. So we spent a good 30 minutes fighting these undead soldiers, who dropped amazing items, and we ended up gaining 1000 exp. We then went on to beat the mission. All I am trying to say is that even in the most linear of missions (I.E. Kill this thing right in front of you), you can find extra paths and quests to complete which are very rewarding and very fun.

Not to be an ass or anything but being that the title of this post is "Questions" and the fact that we have a "Questions and Answers" forum don't you think this should have been posted there?

(Consider it a rhetorical question)

You'll have a lot of fun playing this game. Almost garaunteed more than World of Warcraft or Everquest.

The first BWE I involved myself in, not only did I realized I loved this game, I decided I would buy a new graphics card for it.

Straight to those three-hundred dollar AIW 9800 Pros. ;D

I love this game.

PS. I quit Lineage 2 after the first few days. Its grind was amazing.
